BOUCHARD RESIDENCE

The gently curving forms were created as a direct response to the topography of the site. There are 6 connected floor levels to the house, thereby creating a dynamic interior experience. The lower form is what we call Earth, and the upper form is what we call Jib.

Sustainable features include:
-no fossil fuels, all electric -passive solar intake coupled with interior thermal mass on floor and back walls -sun shading of principal solar intake for reduced summer heat gain
-cut into the hillside thereby lowering the north exposure
-minimal windows on North and maximum glazing on south
-continuous exterior insulation layer
-spray foam wall and roof cavity insulation
-triple glazed pultruded fiberglass windows and doors, with the glass coatings optimized per the exposure
-formaldehyde free interior wood elements
-clerestory windows bring light into the center of the house thereby decreasing need for fixture use
-locally sourced wood flooring
-electric boiler feeding in floor radiant heat distribution
-ventilation system with heat recovery air to air exchanger
-no attached garage
